Rabat - Morocco ranks 30th among the most competitive offshore destinations, said Minister of Trade, Industry, and New Technologies said on Thursday.

Speaking at the Second Offshoring Meeting, Chami said Morocco, which did not even appear at the Offshoring destination rankings in 2006, ranked 30th among the most competitive destinations in 2008 by AT Kearney consulting firm.

Morocco has received more nearshore investments in 2008 than Tunisia, which ranked 17th internationally, Chami noted.

He said the north African kingdom's offer for the sector is based on three assets: infrastructure, training, and competitiveness, adding that the country had achieved a big leap in infrastructure, notably through the Casa-shore, Rabat Technopolis, Fez-shore, and Tetouan-shore.

Offshoring is among the promising sectors identified by the national pact for industrial development, he said.

The sector offers 35,000 job opportunities which could reach 100,000 by 2013.
The event, organized by the Center for Youth Leaders, aims to bring together different representatives of the sectors on a number of issues related to the situation and future of Offshoring in Morocco.
