Morocco to host Euro-Med civil society meeting in mid-October

Brussels - Civil society organizations from the European Union and the Mediterranean Partner Countries will be meeting on October 14-16 in Morocco, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) said in a press release.

    The meeting, organized by the EESC with the support of the European Commission, aims to promote a better understanding on civil society-related issues and improve knowledge of economic and social realities, the document added.

    The role of the civil society in the "Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean" will be discussed during this meeting with a view to make recommendations to the Euromed Foreign Affairs meeting, due on November 3–4 in Marseilles (France), EESC chairman Dimitris Dimitriadis said.

    Participants will also discuss several issues related to freedom of association, the role of women in economic and social life, free trade in the Mediterranean region and the social dimension of relations between the EU and partner countries, the release added.
