Morocco is an active partner in the fight against global food insecurity, said, here Thursday, deputy representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Morocco, Abdelwahab Bouchani.
Morocco has adopted an efficient strategy to address food insecurity that hits several countries, prioritizing key sectors, such as agriculture and water, Bouchani told MAP on the sidelines of a meeting of an inter-ministerial committee in charge of preparing activities marking the celebration, on October 16, of the World Food Day.
The official went on to say that the Kingdom supports a number of African countries to secure food security in the continent.
The committee sketched out a program to celebrate the Day in Morocco, according to an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The celebration, due in Bouznika (close to Rabat), in collaboration with FAO, is expected to bring together more than 500 representatives of different ministries, elected officials and local authorities, he said, adding that a seminar on bioenergy will be organized two days ahead of the World Day.
The 2008 World Food Day, themed “World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy”, will draw attention to the sufferings of 862 million malnourished people across the world.
