Morocco launches study to upgrade fisheries

Morocco has launched a study to set up a strategy aimed to develop the competitiveness of the field of fisheries in Morocco, a press release of the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry said.

Rabat - Morocco has launched a study to set up a strategy aimed to develop the competitiveness of the field of fisheries in Morocco, a press release of the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry said.

   The study will look into the possibility of increasing the fisheries' contribution to the GDP and to the country's exports, while helping create quality jobs and improve the income of the fishermen.

   The five-month study will be conducted by the Moroccan-British group Valyans Consulting/Monitor.

   It also includes identifying the best options to boost the competitiveness of the sector, mainly by improving resource management and modernizing the national fleet.

   Other objectives include suggesting ways to hoist Morocco's world position in terms the fishing industries.
