Warda Al Jazairia awarded Alaouite Ouissam
Under the instructions of King Mohammed VI, Mohamed Mouatassim, King's advisor, presented Saturday night in Rabat, the Alaouite Ouissam with the rank of Commander to the Diva of Arabic song Warda Al Jazairia.
The award was presented to the artist during her stunning show in the Moroccan capital as part of the 8th Mawazine Rhythms of the World Festival.
Warda was also granted a certificate of merit and recognition and a symbolic key of the capital.
Mouatassim said that the royal award is a glowing tribute to the artistic and human qualities of this prestigious singer who made her indelible mark on the Maghreb musical repertoire and contributed to the enrichment of the Arab art scene.
Warda Al Jazairia was born in Puteaux (France) in 1940 to an Algerian father and a Lebanese mother.
She started singing in 1951 when she was only 11 years-old. Very quickly she imposed herself with very patriotic Algerian songs.
Warda collaborated with renowned Egyptian composers such as Baligh Hamdi, Mohamed Abdelwahab, and Sayyed Mekkawy.
She sold millions of albums all over the world and her discography reaches some 300 successful songs.
