Federation dismisses athletics coach

Morocco's athletics federation (FRMA) announced on Friday it has dismissed athletics coach, Said Aouita.

Rabat - Morocco's athletics federation (FRMA) announced on Friday it has dismissed athletics coach, Said Aouita.

   A press release of the FRMA announced the dismissal on Friday without giving any reasons for the decision.

   Aouita was appointed in September 2008 as Technical Director in replacement of Mustapha Aouchar.

   A famous Moroccan athlete, Aouita was the first north African middle-distance runner to compete on the international scene.

   He was awarded the bronze medal at the 1983 World Championships when he contested the 1500m and harvested gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games for the 5000m.

   Aouita held the world records for 1500m and 5000m. 

   He also won the World Indoor Championships in 3000m before ending his athletic career due to hamstring injury.
